Dive into the world of images of past centuries
Prophets, mythical creatures, saints and deadly sins await visitors in the Augustinermuseum. The original stone figures and stained glass windows from Freiburg Cathedral are the centerpieces, as well as medieval wood sculptures and panel paintings by Matthias Grünewald, Lucas Cranach the Elder and Hans Baldung Grien, among others. Baroque works unfold their full splendor in the former choir room.
Paintings of the 19th century by Anselm Feuerbach, Franz Xaver Winterhalter and Hans Thoma, among others, can be seen in the attic.
Notice:
The painting gallery in the attic can be visited again starting Friday, September 9.
Due to renovation work on the convent building, the treasury has been closed since January 1, 2016 and will be on display in the historic basement buildings after completion of the 3rd construction phase.
