What happens when you paint the same motif over and over again over a period of more than 40 years? Peter Dreher (1932-2020) is particularly known for his glass paintings, which he titled Tag um Tag guter Tag: Between 1972 and his death in 2020, he painted the same plain glass in front of the same background in his studio almost 6000 times. It was the act of painting itself that interested Dreher, which he questioned and passed on to many young artists as a professor at the branch of the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe in Freiburg.
This year, Peter Dreher would have been 90 years old, 10 years have passed since his extensive donation of over 400 glasses to the Museum für Neue Kunst and an important work, the Freiburger Garten (1979), has recently been added to the collection of the Museum für Neue Kunst as a permanent loan from the Freiburg Regional Council.
Many good reasons to review and present his work in a room of the Permanent Collection!
