Pillar of Cultural Diversity
Intercultural Artists' Project
Museum Natur und Mensch
Seven different cultural spheres, four continents, one art project - female artists from Peru, Israel, Japan, Uruguay, Turkey, Kenya and Germany, all of whom are currently based in Freiburg, have joined forces to create an artwork that overcomes borders. The result is a spatial installation - the "Pillar of Cultural Diversity".
The form of the pillar expresses and reinforces symbolically the idea that diversity enriches us all. The group uses artistic means to show that we can develop our potential by encountering the unfamiliar with curiosity and openness. The artists worked together, experimented and engaged with their various cultural identities and commonalities: this working process is reflected in the resulting artwork. In addition, selected works by the individual artists are presented.
