16.11.1844 – 8.11.1915
Born in Karlsruhe, Adolf Meeß was active in many social and cultural associations and committees. Among other things, he was a member of the supervisory board of the Karlsruher Vereinsbank, the administration of the orphanage and the Schatzungsrat. With regard to local politics, he was active in the district council and the district assembly. He was a city councillor from 1884 until 1894 and was a member of the Karlsruhe City Council until 1914. Meeß’s connection to Freiburg remains unclear. Further details of his life are not known. Furthermore, the City of Freiburg residents register does not contain an entry for him, so one may assume that he did not live here. How and in what way he was connected with the museum cannot be ascertained.
Meeß Donation
Adolf Meeß’s name was added to the roll of honour for the year 1901, as he donated several natural history specimens to the museum in that year. These included small butterflies as well as native hemipterans.
